Welcome to the world's largest public festival! That's right, we are talking about Oktoberfest! The gathering has become a world wide extravaganza. With food, attractions and of course beer. However, few really know the reason behind this long lasting celebration. The Oktoberfest tradition started in 1810 to celebrate the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities which were held over five days on the fields in front of the city gates. Now the annual event is known for the  beer, and a place where you can travel back in time and wear the traditional lederhosen and dirndls.
